Important Information for Congregants
Frequently Asked Questions

Address, Telephone, or Email Changes:
If you move or change your home or work telephone number, mailing address, or email address, please notify the Temple office. Much of our mail is sent bulk, and therefore, cannot be forwarded.  In addition, we are charged when the mail is returned to the Temple.

Chadashot (Our Newsletter): The website, the Chadashot and the listserv are the Temple’s methods for keeping our community informed. The Chadashot is publisehd monthly from September through July; it should reach your home by the first of the month. Deadlines for the publications are the 25th of the month prior to publication for the Chadashot (ie: 25th of September for November).  We encourage you to announce family simchas -- this can be done by emailing the information to the Temple office before the deadline.

Fee Policy: Member families are responsible for all fees set by the Temple Board of Directors . Fees are billed monthly, on a ten month basis, from July through April. Bills must be paid on schedule unless alternative arrangements are made with a Financial Secretary. In order to enroll children in Machane TBA (Religious Education), to schedule and celebrate a simcha (Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Confirmation, wedding, etc.) at the Temple, to receive High Holy Days tickets, or to have voting privileges at congregational meetings, a congregant must be current in all financial obligations. School enrollment is considered tentative until payment is received for the first billing cycle.

Life-Cycle Events: Please notify the Temple of births, illnesses, deaths, marriages, divorces, etc. so we can respond to the needs of our congregants. Due to privacy policies (HPPA), we cannot publish any names unless permission is received by the individual or a member of the family.

ListServ:
The Temple's weekly listserv is sent on Thursdays to all members who have provided email addresses. The listserv announces services, events, and congregational and community happenings. Please contact Betsy Sill at the Temple office to be added to the list. Please keep the office informed of email address changes. Special listservs and announcements of a death in the congregation will be emailed as needed.

Membership Status: Membership categories are in effect for the entire fiscal year -- your category as of July 1 continues until June 30. To change your type of membership for the next fiscal year, e.g., Single Household to Household, you must notify the Temple. Resignations must be placed in writing - we consider you a member until you notify us officially in writing that you are resigning.

School Closings: The Nursery School and Machane TBA follow the Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) schedule except that our schools are open on MCPS's half days. If MCPS closes for inclement weather, our schools are closed. If MCPS has a delayed opening (however long), the Nursery School opens one hour late; the Machane TBA meets on schedule. If MCPS closes early or cancels evening or weekend programming, our schools and programs are closed. Closings are announced on the following radio stations: WTOP and WMAL. A message is also announced on the Temple’s answering system; however, the system can only handle a few calls at a time, so please be patient. We will also post it through the green/red light indicators on the home page of our sebsite.

The office/building follows the MC Government.

Telephones: When you call the main numbers for the office, Machane TBA, or Nursery School during office hours, your call will be answered and immediately put through to the proper person. If that person is unavailable, the call will be directed to that person's voicemail. For calls received when the office is closed, there is a listing on the message for staff extensions or you may refer to the list in the directory.
