Come Sing With Us!
Music moves the spirit. It is central to our services and an integral part of all the joyous and solemn occasions we share. Beth Ami has singing groups for the young and the old, the experienced and the novice. Being part of our choruses helps you learn the music of our services, teaches you new ways to interpret and understand our liturgy, and explore the rich heritage of song that is part of our Jewish Tradition.
Please come and join one of our Choirs below, or if you have an idea for a new group let us know!

SHIR AMI, the Temple Beth Ami Choral Group, is a long standing musical institution here at Temple Beth Ami. We began in 1982, and still have many original members singing with us! It is composed of members of the Congregation who bring their love of singing and their voices to enhance our Jewish experience through music. (Hebrew and music reading are helpful, but not required.) Led by Joshana Erenberg, the group has the pleasure of performing at High Holy Days, select Shabbat services, the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service in November, and at the Adult Choral Festival in March. The group welcomes new singers at any time. All that is required is a pencil and love of music. Join us!
KOL ISHA is TBA's adult women's choral group. This group grew out of Shir Ami during our 5771 Yom Kippur concert and has been flourishing ever since. Kol Isha focuses on singing beautiful choral arrangements for female voices only.
CHAI AMI, the Temple Beth Ami teen Choral Group, is composed of teen female members of the Congregation who, with their enthusiasm and voices, bring a fresh contemporary sound to Jewish and Secular music. Led by Cantorial Soloist Joshana Erenberg, the group has performed at several venues such as the Teen Choral Festival and has sung with great Jewish performers including Rick Recht. Chai Ami has had the pleasure of performing at High Holy Days, select Shabbat services, festivals and fairs. The group is always encouraged to think and sing outside the box. Some members even compose and arrange music for the group. The group is by audition only.
Our Musical Director: Cantorial Soloist, Joshana Erenberg
Joshana Erenberg, a native of Highland Park, IL, has sung professionally since she was 10 years old in diverse venues such as Ravinia Festival and at Northwestern University’s opera program. Joshana received her Bachelor's in Music from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and her Master's in Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where she studied with Sylvia Anderson.
She has sung with the Grant Park Festival Chorus and soloed with the William Ferris Chorale and the Lira Ensemble, in Chicago, Illinois. She has done solo work at the North American Jewish Choral Festival under the direction of Matthew Lazar and she was also a soloist at the World Music Festival (Zimriyah) in Jerusalem, Israel under the direction of Andre Thomas. In 2008 she toured with Zamir giving concerts in Israel for its 60th anniversary and was a soloist at the final concert held in the Jerusalem Theater. She was one of the founding members of the all female a cappella group "Ladies First" at Indiana University and produced two award-winning Cd's with them. When she came to Washington, DC, she became actively involved with a local opera company, Bel Cantanti Opera; she has performed with them and was on their board of directors. Joshana recorded a CD of Jewish Psalms by modern composer Steve Cohen called Shir Chadash. She has always been a champion of modern Jewish composers and is a huge supporter of new Jewish music.
Joshana is thrilled to be a member of Temple Beth Ami's community. TBA is a place she is proud to call home.
