Summer 2010 is coming ...

"Tuv Ha’Aretz” means both “good for the land” and “the best of the land”. Ultimately, it also means the best for you and your family. Becoming part of Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) offers you the opportunity to purchase healthy, organic produce at competitive prices, while supporting local farmers, building community and expanding our understanding of what it means for food to be kosher – “fit” for the earth, as well as “fit” for us.

We will again be working with Calvert Farm, an organic grower in Cecil County, Maryland. www.calvertfarm.com. Produce changes as the season progresses. The deliveries will begin with lots of leafy vegetables, like spinach and lettuce, as well as peas, radishes, Swiss chard, green onions, spring garlic, herbs, beets, and rhubarb. During the summer, deliveries will include corn, green beans, tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini, potatoes, apricots, and peaches. The end of the summer season will have deliveries of carrots, cucumbers, green peppers, and collard greens.

Through CSA, you will know where your food is coming from and will enjoy:

· A variety of fresh, organic or integrated-pest-management fruits and vegetables delivered directly to Temple Beth Ami

· An opportunity to support local, sustainable farms, a healthy environment, and a strong community

· The chance to connect in new ways to Jewish values and tradition

Please read the details below - then download and complete the CSA order form

1. Registration for the Spring/Summer program must be made by February 10, 2010. This will require a $50 deposit and registration form. (Checks are made out to Temple Beth Ami). Both items should be mailed to TBA, attention: Gail Brodsky. The total cost for this program will be $475.00. If you are ordering eggs ($3.50 per dozen for the spring season) an additional $70 should be added to your total.

2. This year we will have two ways to make your payment for this program: You may chose either of the following plans:

(a) Option 1: Two payments, in addition to the deposit due by Feb. 10th, first payment of $200 ($235 with eggs) due by February 26th and the final payment of $225 ($260.) due by March 22nd. If you are getting eggs, break the total amount due for them into two payments ($35.00 each) and include half with each of your payments (see previous totals).

(b) Option 2: A total of 4 equal payments, in addition to your deposit of $50 due February 10th. That would be $106.25 ($123.75 with eggs) due on December 15th, January 15th, February 15th and March 15th. If you choose this option, there is an additional cost of $15 which should be added to your first payment to handle the extra bookkeeping. Please remember if you are getting eggs, to include that amount in each of your payments.

3. If you do not want to purchase a full share, and have no one to split with, please let us know so we can pair people up or give you names to contact. Once the program begins, all splitting of orders will take place off the premises. It is highly suggested you do not share with more than one person. Dividing some produce becomes extremely difficult for more than two families and the amounts get too small.

4. In order to help make pick-up easier this time, if you can’t pick-up your produce by 6 pm on Mondays, we will refrigerate and hold it until Tuesday no later than 7 p.m. When registering, please include somewhere on your form, Monday or Tuesday pickup.

5. For further information and details you can go to the Calvert Farm website at www.calvertfarm.com.
