Tikkun Olam


Temple Beth Ami's Tikkun Olam Committee strives to put our faith into action by enabling Temple members to assist others - including members of our Temple community, the local community, and the greater comunity. Through active participation in a range of projects and programs, we will accomplish our goal - the commandment of Tikkun Olam - to help repair the world as we pursue social justice. A Wider Circle  

Touch the lives of some of the neediest in the DC area through a variety of activities. Email Betty Shevitz , phone her at 301-294-6268, or visit http://awidercircle.org .

Breast Cancer Network  

Made up of Temple members who are breast cancer survivors, this group offers support and resources to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients via one-on-one discussions. Call Sandy Reznick (301-279-2889), Lynn Karpay (301-424-6313), Midge Bajefsky (301-983-1567), or Leslie Foxman (ASL Bilingual) if you have questions or want to talk.

Christmas Dinner for the Homeless  

Help prepare and serve a festive holiday meal to local homeless citizens on Christmas Day at the Lord’s Table in St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Gaithersburg. Contact Joanne Brodsky.

B’nai B’rith Project H.O.P.E.  


Help deliver bags of Rosh Hashanah and/or Pesach necessities and goodies to Russian immigrant and other needy families in our area. Contact Mark Joffe or Joanne Brodsky.

Hebrew Home  


Help wheelchair-bound Hebrew Home residents attend Shabbat services. Adult and teen volunteers needed from 9:30–11:30 a.m. one Saturday per month. Call Ed Hopkins at 301-929-1999.

Sukkot in April  


Join other TBA members in repairing/brightening the home of a low-income family in Montgomery County. Contact Roger Rothman at 301-770-2176.

Tikkun Olam Committee  


Join fellow TBA members in facilitating the Temple’s ongoing community service activities, or help start a new activity. Contact Mark Joffe or Joanne Brodsky.

Children's Inn at NIH  


Drivers are needed on Saturdays to take families staying at the Children’s Inn to Montgomery Mall for an afternoon of fun and relaxation. Contact Linda Vann.

Hineni  


Help fellow TBA members in times of need. Guidelines and backup assistance provided. Contact Gail Roe at 301-545-0227.

Community Ministries of Rockville - Chase Partnership House  

Help shop for and deliver meals to the homeless at a shelter in Rockville. Contact Debbie Jacobs or 301-983-4055.
Community Ministries of Rockville - Kaseman Health Clinic  


Volunteers with clinical and nonclinical experience needed to help expand this primary and preventive health care service into a full-time facility for uninsured Rockville residents. Contact Dr. Neil Spiegel or Mark Joffe.

Community Ministries of Rockville - Latino Outreach Program  

Assist in English language and American culture/ customs classes for Spanish-speaking immigrants. Teen volunteers also needed to spend time with the children of the adults being tutored. Contact Mark Joffe.

Stuff-A-Duff  


Help TBA and Child Welfare Services of Montgomery County assemble overnight duffle bags for children and teens placed into foster care on short notice. Donations and volunteers needed. Contact Judi Goozh, Judy Treby, or Ellie Sondik.

Shabbat for Seniors  


Help bring the joy of Shabbat (and other Jewish holidays) to residents of Bedford Court in Silver Spring and Brighton Gardens in North Bethesda by helping to lead services for those who are unable to travel elsewhere to attend services. Contact Colin Alter.
